Q&A

What is Reiki?

Reiki is a technique for stress reduction that also promotes healing through a gentle laying-on of hands. It is based on the idea that an unseen "life force energy" flows through us and enlivens us. If our "life force energy" is low, we are more likely to get sick or feel stress. If it is high, we are more capable of being happy and healthy.

While Reiki is spiritual in nature, it is not a religion. It has no dogma, and there is nothing you must believe in order to benefit from Reiki. In fact, Reiki is not dependent on belief at all and will work whether you believe in it or not. Reiki can enable people to go beyond intellectual religious concepts and directly experience their religion.

Who invented it?

Good question. Mikao Usui began to use Reiki in Japan. He taught his students to live peacefully, with humility and honesty. Here is his saying:

Just for today, do not worry

Just for today, do not be angry

Just for today, do not be lazy

Just for today, practice kindness

Just for today, be humble and grateful

Mikao Usui believed Reiki was a divine gift that flowed through humans, especially if they learned to trust the force. An intention to heal was all it required. And one could learn to detect troubled areas on a patient, and devote some time there with the palms of the hands.

What is the difference between Reiki and Energy Healing?

Reiki healing may appear the same as Healing, often called Energy or Spiritual Healing.

There are, however, some differences between the two, and although the energy channeled in both systems is the same energy (life force), the differences are in how the practitioner connects with it and uses it. Analogies could be for instance, a radio connecting you to music etc. via different radio channels, or travelling from A to B in different modes of transport or on foot, etc.

Both systems use hands (hands on or hands off) to transmit the energies. The main difference is in the use of symbols in Reiki. Some other differences are, for instance, it's origin, ways of connecting and treating a client. In both instances the practitioner is calling in an outside source, such as universal life force energy and asking for the healing to come from somewhere other than their own personal energy. Another difference between the two systems is that, simply being attuned to Reiki does not necessarily give the practitioner the tools to deal with the emotions sometimes released by a client during a healing, so it is good to be trained in both systems.

Spiritual energy healers learn through practice to connect to and draw in the energy. Reiki practitioners tune in to the energy that connects them to the source. Practicing qigong, shibashi and tai chi helps make the practitioner a stronger channel for the energy. All healing whether Spiritual Energy Healing or Reiki works on the human energy field uses channeled energy. All healing is beneficial, and whatever healing is received needs to originate from a pure intention from the practitioner.

At the end of the day, whatever beliefs you may have, they both transmit universal life force energy with the pure intent of helping and healing.

What is an attunement?

It's an initiation. A Teacher has the intention to attune a beginner to Reiki, and the force does the rest. You begin your path as a student or practitioner with an attunement.

What is a Chi Ball Attunement?

A Chi Ball Attunement is an attunement that is prepared in advance so that you can accept and receive the attunement whenever is best for you once it has been prepared. It does not require a timed appointment.

Chi Ball Attunements connect you to the energies of an energy healing modality so you can use and access these energies in the future whenever you wish.

An attunement is a process, similar to an easy to do meditation, that connects you to the energies of the attunement course you have purchased. Once you connect with the energies, you can access the energies again in the future whenever you want. You do not need to be attuned to the attunement course energies again as this is a one-time process.

Chi Ball Attunements are by far the most popular type of attunement due to their effectiveness (just as effective as in person and timed attunements), user flexibility and avoidance of time zone issues that timed appointments often face.

Chi Ball Attunements allow for far more potential of accepting the attunement when the time is right for you or when your intuition guides you as opposed to being held by pre-scheduled appointment time.

How to choose a Distant Attunement?

When selecting an attunement, it is essential to know what you want to achieve. Often you may have a rough idea of this, but it is important to be very clear. List out what you want to achieve, with a primary focus point, with minor focus points to follow. On the website there are plenty of Energies to choose from. When clients ask me for attunement suggestions, which I love doing, it often becomes apparent that they are not clear what they want to achieve. Spend time thinking about your primary focus requirement. Keep this in the forefront of your mind. Then, listen to the voice within - your Intuition - your Higher Self! Read the description of the Energies provided. Your Higher Self has this way of guiding you into what you need, not necessarily what you want. At the end of the day what resonates with your soul (what you feel inclined to pick), because there is a certain energy calling you to it, may be what your inner guidance is suggesting you to choose.

What are the hand positions?

You don't need to use any official position. Reiki knows how to go where it is needed. We just use touch/hands to transfer the energy to the body.

How does Reiki work?

Reiki practitioners use their hands to deliver energy and improve the flow and balance of the recipient's energy to support healing. Reiki assists in balancing your physical, mental, emotional and spiritual well-being to promote a deep sense of relaxation. You may experience the energy as sensations such as heat, tingling, or pulsing where the practitioner places her hands on your body, or you may feel these sensations move through your body to other locations. Some people may not perceive any change at all. Most people feel very relaxed and peaceful; many clients even fall asleep while receiving a Reiki treatment.

Does Reiki replace traditional medical or therapeutic treatments?

Reiki complements all other types of medical and therapeutic treatments. Reiki is not a substitute for consultation with a physician, a practitioner of natural therapeutics or a psychotherapist. Reiki increases the efficacy of all these other types of healing.

What are the benefits of receiving Reiki?

A Reiki treatment adapts to the needs of the recipient and may:

  • Initiate the feeling of security, peace and wellness
  • Bring a peaceful, deep relaxation
  • Dissolve energy blockages and tension, thereby reducing stress
  • Support the well-being of the client who is receiving medical treatments
  • Stimulate the body's immune system
  • Help to relieve pain
  • Stimulate tissue and bone healing after injury or surgery
  • Help meditative states
  • Promote natural self-healing

What are some examples of conditions treated by Reiki?

Common issues addressed with Reiki include anxiety, pain, spiritual distress and nausea. Families and employees can also benefit from Reiki as a tool to help with stress, anxiety and as an outlet for relaxation.

What do the different levels of Reiki represent?

Reiki Is A Spiritual Practice. Each Reiki level represents a spiritual and energetical "leap" towards a higher level of awareness, knowledge, and consciousness. This separation doesn't make one weaker than the other or vice versa. It is simply a clearer path for us to understand and assimilate Reiki knowledge. There are Reiki Masters who still have so much to learn while there are Reiki level 1 practitioners who have 100% integrated the Reiki philosophy and essence.

There is no rush in Reiki. We all need time to absorb the freshly assimilated information. We have to study, understand and finally implement it. That is why everyone needs time to adapt to the new energy and vibration that enters the body. Each one of us has an optimum rhythm in which we operate. Therefore we need to integrate freshly assimilated knowledge before we put it in practice. Reiki is no different.  If we rush things we risk overwhelming our mind with information and drain our body at an energetic level. It can be more difficult to repair this than taking the time to gradually learn and move towards your goal step by step.

Can I receive different Attunements at the same time?

Yes you can! Once you receive a Reiki attunement, it will last your whole life. However, if you get additional attunements for the same level, it will act to refine and strengthen your Reiki energy.

What if I cannot feel the flow of energies? Is this normal?

Yes, it is normal. Remember that Reiki works 100% of the time. You may experience the energy as sensations such as heat, tingling, or pulsing where the practitioner places her hands on your body, or you may feel these sensations move through your body to other locations. Some people may not perceive any change at all. Most people feel very relaxed and peaceful; many clients even fall asleep while receiving a Reiki treatment
