What is Reiki?
Reiki is LOVE! Reiki is the Life Force Energy that refills our batteries (Body, Mind and Soul). Although re-discovered by Mikao Usui, the roots of Reiki go all the way back to Atlantean times. It is a technique for stress reduction, for balance and relaxation, and it also promotes healing. It is administered through "Distance Healing" or by "laying on hands", although it is also effective with the hands held slightly over the receiver's body. This type of technique has been practiced for thousands of years.
The word "Rei" means "Universal." When used in Reiki, it is more accurately interpreted to mean "high knowledge" or "spiritual consciousness." This is the all-knowing wisdom that comes from the God-consciousness - it completely understands each person and his/her needs. "Ki" means "life energy." It is also known as the vital life force - a non-physical energy that animates all living things. It is the God-consciousness (Rei) that guides the life energy (Ki) in the practice of Reiki.
Reiki is both powerful and gentle. In its long history of use, it has aided in healing virtually every known illness and injury. It works in harmony with all other kinds of treatment. You can continue to receive regular medical or psychological treatment while receiving Reiki, with improved results. In fact, Reiki has been known to shorten healing time, reduce or eliminate pain, reduce stress, and create optimism. Often, patients who receive Reiki leave the hospital earlier, yes in some countries Reiki is used as a complement to treatments received in hospitals, than those who don't and have fewer complications. A treatment feels like a wonderful glowing radiance and has many benefits for both client and practitioner.
While Reiki is spiritual in nature, it is not a religion. It has no dogma, and there is nothing you must believe in order to benefit from Reiki. In fact, Reiki is not dependent on belief at all and will work whether you believe in it or not.
